Power On started in 2004, after one of the roughest hurricane seasons North Florida had seen in years. John had not spent his career in generators before then, but he had spent a lifetime building the kind of skills that made the work possible. As an Air Force avionics technician, a mechanic, and later a RadioShack manager, he learned how to troubleshoot, solve problems, work with people, and understand the equipment families rely on. When he saw how many neighbors were left without power for days at a time, he started Power On with a simple belief: standby power should be installed, maintained, and serviced by people who know how to keep it working when it matters most.
More than 20 years later, that same hands-on standard still guides the company. Josh did not step into Power On from the top down. He started at the bottom, doing maintenance work, learning the hard jobs, getting into the electrical side, and working through every part of the business until he understood the process from start to finish. Today, Power On is still family-owned, locally operated, and built around the same practical promise John started with: take care of the customer, do the work the right way, and make sure the generator is ready before the next storm comes.
In 2022, John's nephew Josh stepped into day-to-day ownership with a clear goal: bring every part of the install under one roof. Before Josh, Power On relied on outside electricians to finish portions of the job. After Josh, the company built its own electrical team to handle the tie-in, transfer switch, meter work, and other critical parts of the installation process in-house.
A couple months after Josh took the helm, John came back to help with operations, and the company continued growing around the same family-first, hands-on approach. That transition is why Power On is a true turnkey generator company. Gas, electrical, service, permitting, and paperwork all live under the Power On roof, staffed by 15+ people who treat the work like their own homes were on the line.

Today, Power On is owned by Josh and his wife Annie, who both learned the business from the ground up. Josh worked his way through the field side, from maintenance and installation support to the electrical work and daily operations. Annie came in shortly after and did the same on the office side, learning the systems, scheduling, customer communication, paperwork, and behind-the-scenes details that keep every job moving.
That matters because a generator installation is not just one appointment. It is a process that involves planning, permits, coordination, communication, field work, inspections, and service after the install. The office has to run just as well as the job site, and Power On is built around people who understand both.
Josh and his family live in Tallahassee. Their kids go to school here. Their team lives and works throughout the same communities they serve. When you choose Power On, you are not sending your money to an out-of-state company or a distant franchise. You are supporting local families, local jobs, and a business that puts those dollars right back into the Tallahassee area.
Our crew includes a gas manager, a service manager, an electrical manager with a lead electrician, field technicians, electrical helpers, a salesman with decades of generator experience, and office staff who keep schedules on track. Everyone who wears a Power On shirt takes pride in the work and knows the products inside and out. When you see one of our trucks on your street, you are looking at a neighbor who has trained for this.

A lot of companies in our area call themselves generator companies, but many of them are electricians who install generators on the side. There is a big difference. Generators are not a weekend side job. Sizing, gas loads, transfer switch wiring, exhaust clearances, permit requirements, and manufacturer warranty rules all take focused expertise. Because we do this every day, we do it faster, cleaner, and in a way that is built to last.
That focus is also why Generac named us an Elite Plus dealer, their top tier. It comes with factory-level training, direct warranty support, and access to some of the strongest promotions in the industry.
From our shop at 1295 Commerce Blvd in Midway, we cover roughly a 100-mile radius around Tallahassee. That includes Leon, Wakulla, Jefferson, Madison, Franklin, and Gadsden counties in Florida, and reaches up into Thomasville and the rest of southwest Georgia. We group appointments by area so our trucks are in your neighborhood more often, and our response time stays sharp.
Curious what a generator would look like at your place? Call 850-422-2232, send us a contact request, or drop by the shop. A real person will answer, and we will take it from there.
